A Night Divided

   A Night Divided a chapter book written by Jennifer A. Nielsen describes a family that was separated by the Berlin wall. The main character in A Night Divided is Gerta. Gerta lives in east Berlin with her brother and mom. Her other brother is in west berlin with their dada. Gerta and Fritz want to leave east Berlin and get to the west .Then see their dad and brother. However the Stasi and everywhere and the consequences of being caught in death. Also they are everywhere so they can not say anything and everything that they do is on a record. Another thing is that they simply do not know a good way to get to west Berlin. Then they see their dad on the other side making a gesture that they thought was digging. She also got a pitcher where they should start digging. At the end they tunneled their way to freedom, sadly they lost a good person that sacrificed himself for Gerta.

    Gerta the main character in A Night Divided is a complex and interesting character. To begin, Gerta is determined. I know this because Gerta held the pipe in the dark with the freezing water spares on her . Another thing that she did that was determined was when she convinced officer Mueller not to kill them. Gerta is also very smart. I know this because she stole the pulley even though it was very dangerous. Because she knew that it would make the digging faster. I think that Gerta is creases.  I think this because when she heard a scream she went to see who it was and was curious what  was going on . Another thing that tells me that she was curious is that she would alway think  about the wall and how to get to the other side.
