Cave Explorer

Cave Explorer

Cave explorer by Judith Boogaard describes 17-year-old Stephen’s life as a slave
and how he found passageways in Mammoth Cave. First challenge that he had was
that he did not know anything about the cave. He needed to know facts and stories. He also
wanted to know what the marks on the wall meant. He was famous for being the first person to cross the ladder. Because you have to walk across a super thin ladder and if you fell into the rapids you would likely die.

One thing I like about this story is that in the end the slave got the glory that he
deserved from finding all the passageways and all of his achievements. Another
thing that I like about this story is that he actually enjoyed his work as a slave
and exploring the caves he was not forced to do. I also think that it is very
interesting that the slave owner would make him do that instead of doing other
things like farming. If I was going to rate this story I would rate it a 9 out of 10
because it was very interesting and cool. But I kind of wish it was a little bit longer and told what he did after he made his map.

  1. Great job Dublin. You have nice detail and your writing is well organized. Make sure to underline book titles in a sentence. Keep reading! :)
